10-year-old's RTI posers stump PMO, Government

When some simple questions came to the mind of Aishwarya Parashar, a Class-VI student of the City  Montessori School, Lucknow, she did not let them languish unasked. She went seeking out answers through the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Aishwarya's inquisitiveness and willingness to pursue the source of information has yielded, till date, the establishment of a public library on the site of a garbage dump and the nation being better enlightened about the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. All of just 10 years, Aishwarya is a confident little girl, who herself answers a mobile phone and urges those wanting some written information from her to send her an SMS giving their e-mail ID and even forwards e-mail and communicates about her work on her own. “I have so far filed three RTIs with the Prime Minister's Office,'' she says, adding that “the first one was [a query] about who gave the order for printing Mahatma Gandhi's image on currency notes. I was...

Audio Journal keeps community tuned

WORCESTER  —  The generation of children who grew up huddled on the living-room floor listening to radio programming they had looked forward to all week has come of age. Now in their later years, many of those seniors have found that their reliance on radio has come full circle.  Thanks to a nonprofit organization called Audio Journal, Worcester County residents who are unable to read their local publications — whether because of visual impairment or a mobility problem that prevents physical access — can instead have a seat on their favorite easy chair and tune in to The Wall Street Journal, followed by the Telegram & Gazette and an occasional New York Times. Founded in 1987 with five volunteers and studio space in an unused closet at the Worcester Public Library, Audio Journal and its 170 volunteers will celebrate 25 years of service to Central Massachusetts this year.... http://www.telegram.com/article/20120519/TOWNNEWS/120519448&TEMPLATE=TOWNPORTAL
