Empowering Young Voices: A Life Coach’s Reflections on an Inspiring CAT Session on OTT and Tobacco Depiction

As a Life Coach and advocate for youth well-being, it was a privilege to join an energizing and insightful session organized by the brilliant CATs (Community Action Teams) of the Nada Young India Network for Good health   While the topic at hand— the depiction of tobacco use on OTT platforms —was serious and deeply relevant, the energy, passion, and preparation of each young speaker turned the session into a celebration of awareness, advocacy, and action. A special shout-out to Hiral , our Good Health Champion , who began her journey with Nada India back in Class 9. Today, she continues to lead from the front, coordinating healthy campus efforts in Faridabad with dedication and heart. Watching her evolution is both inspiring and affirming of the long-term impact youth-led initiatives can have when nurtured with care. And then, there were the real stars of the day— our CATs ( Community Action Team) , who brought not only their intellect but also their soul to this session: 🌟 Dar...

Youth first to make the universal health coverage a reality....

Prof.T K Thomas 04 Jun, 2019    “with the growing young population in India, it becomes extremely important to involve youth and understand their needs at the policy level. This can help them to effectively deal with the cross cutting issues like linkages between alcoholism, tobacco use and tuberculosis. The government must make the political decision to put youth first to make the universal health coverage a reality.” The annual World No Tobacco Day was observed on 31st May. The day is observed by the World Health Organization [WHO] and global partners as an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. This year’s focus for the day was, “Tobacco and lung health”. Everyone knows how tobacco affects our lungs. The WHO release says, the campaign will increase awareness on, “the negative impact that tobacco has on people’s lung health, from cancer, to chronic r...

Alcohol has been kept out of the purview of GST... read more about its impact...?

According to Mr. Dev Bhushan Kalra, Chartered Accountant, author of book    “Not Everything On G.S.T Just Definitions ”,   the  alcohol for human consumption has been kept out of the purview of Good Services Tax due to two major reasons. First, a constitutional amendment would be needed to be made for the same. Second, it is one of the most revenue generating activity in the States.  To understand the impact of GST on alcohol, we need to differentiate between the internal and the external factors that may drive the price of alcohol with the onset of GST. The internal factors are the supply chain and the existing laws that govern the manufacture and sale of alcohol. Since GST as on date has kept alcohol output out, hence the existing law provisions will apply. Thus no or little change would accrue as this is what is happening today (before GST). What is interesting is that the inputs for the same are now in the purview. This is what the external factors a...

Let us Talk...Suneel Vatsyayan

Let Us Talk: Developing Connections And Empowering Communities For Well-Being by   Suneel Vatsyayan Posted on Mar 23 '17,  Community roots, community reach Chanda (name changed), along with eight other peer educators with a similar background, regularly visits families in an urban slum of New Delhi to talk with them about diabetes, hypertension, cancer and alcohol and tobacco. These peer educators are 15- to 18-year old students and are living in the same community where they conduct their interventions. That makes it easier for them to understand and to make a connection with the families they meet. Five out of nine peer educators share how their fathers were addicted to alcohol and despite being girls how they managed to make their fathers understand and help them overcome addiction. Building on their own stories and being able to rely on their intimate understanding of the community, the peer educators, like Chanda, are able to rela...

Vineet and Mani join Nada India as volunteers

Two students of a Rohtas-based school are on cloud nine after the President of India's office responded positively to their plan to clean the man-made lake around Sher Shah Suri's mausoleum. Class XI students Vineet Prakash and Mani Raj Singh had written to President Pranab Mukherjee on December 15, seeking his intervention to restore the glory of the mausoleum, on the wane because of a foul smell emanating from the water body around it in Sasaram district. The letter, a copy of which is with The Telegraph, said the dirty water had not been cleaned for decades because of the apathetic attitude of authorities and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which looks after the heritage site. In the letter the boys said it was not only sending a wrong message to tourists but could also cause serious diseases because of air pollution. The students had earlier chalked out a detailed plan to clean the water, something they showcased at a science exhibition in Ranchi in February...
