Riya Nada India Youth Catalyst attended "Survivor's Day" organised by Indian Cancer Society on 6th February,2020 at Select Citywalk Mall Delhi . The event had a burst of colour and laughter celebrating the victory of people against cancer. There were dance and musical performances by survivors young and old as well as some professional groups who had all come together to create a joyous afternoon in the wake of World Cancer Day. What stuck with me were the words of a doctor from Max Hospital who said   "We fall sick alone, but we can heal in a community. Let's forms a human chain to combat cancer." New Lancet study highlights 38% increase in alcohol use among Indians (from 2010 to 2017) - a deviation from the national NCD target of reducing alcohol consumption by 10% by 2025 Alcohol poses serious threat to sustainable development and public health, manifesting its severe outcomes through multiple Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), adversely affecting physical and mental health. Over the years, consumption of alcoholic beverages,particularly among young people and women, has gained increasing popularity and social acceptance. "Alcohol drags people into poverty and adversely affect their families and entire communities. Prof.T K Thomas 04 Jun, 2019    “with the growing young population in India, it becomes extremely important to involve youth and understand their needs at the policy level. This can help them to effectively deal with the cross cutting issues like linkages between alcoholism, tobacco use and tuberculosis. The government must make the political decision to put youth first to make the universal health coverage a reality.” The annual World No Tobacco Day was observed on 31st May. The day is observed by the World Health Organization [WHO] and global partners as an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. Vindhya during Pre-conference Youth Workshop with a smile...    Nada India youth health advocate at the Second Global NCD Alliance Forum (7-11 December 2017) On December 7-11, Nada India’s youth advocate Vindhya was at the pre forum youth workshop and the second Global NCD Alliance Forum in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates! The second Global NCD Alliance Forum was organized by the NCD Alliance (NCDA) in partnership with local host organization, Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP). 350 members of the NCD movement from 68 countries attended the Forum from 9 – 11 December in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. This year, an increased number of youth delegates and people living with NCDs participated in this unique event, which reflected the Forum’s objective to promote the engagement of the next generation and people living with NCDs as central parts of the NCD movement. The report of WHO Mapping of Indian Civil Society Organisations for Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases is now available.   Key highlights include: Resourcing and lack of coordination are the top challenges for CSO response to NCDs in the country State level CSOs are more enthusiastic about collective action CSOs outside the health sector have interest, experience and potential to contribute to the NCD response Capacity building is the priority for younger CSOs, while those with more years of experience prefer advocacy for policy change. The report also lends insights into the specific sub streams in the CSO movement (by NCDs, risk factors and related issues) that you may find relevant to your respective areas of work.  Healthy India Alliance ,(Nada India is governing board member ) helped to disseminate survey and gather response.
