About:

With 20 years of experience in the field of NCDs and prevention of NCDs, Nada India Foundation welcomes interested applicants to join the ‘Health Advocacy Fellowship’. As an organisation we are committed to foster a network of community-based initiatives, that strive to develop empowered leadership & healthy choice among marginalised & vulnerable populations especially youth and adolescents.

There are 3 vacancies for this fellowship and each of the fellows will be allocated to work along with one of the project areas: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh. 

Duration: 8 months

Grant: Rs.10,000 per month from the start of the fellowship



It is an initiative to empower and revitalise youth and youth groups who have been affected and effected by the tobacco industry tactics and tobacco consumption at an early age. Through several awareness campaigns, educative workshops, community engagement, case studies and focused group discussions with various stakeholders, this fellowship aims to derive several approaches to promote health and prevent tobacco consumption. Focus areas:

  1. Tobacco control laws: COTPA, NTCP and other state, district, institutional level regulations
  2. Child rights, JJ ACT: Substance free environment for adolescents and youth
  3. UGC, CBSE, NEP, MoHFW: Focus on creating tobacco (or any substance) free educational institutions
  4. Youth advocacy: Decision making arenas like policy formulation
  5. Evidence based study

 

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be Indian citizens, above 18 years
  • Basic knowledge on this fellowship focus areas is a must.
  • Prior experience and knowledge in the field of tobacco, advocacy, NCDs, healthcare, policy formulation is an added advantage.
  • Skills required: Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Hindi, writing (report, blogs, reviews), MS Office tools, communication, presentation (written, oral, ppt), liaising, and efficient planning and organising.
  • Desirable qualities: youth networking, interest in tracking, running, cycling, sports, knowledge in law, yoga, music, theatre.
  • Prior 1 year experience in either resource mobilisation, program strategy, Project coordination and research and monitoring is expected. (Full time/ part time).
  • DECLARATION: Candidate should not have had the habit of smoking or drinking in the past 5 years, should not have had any direct/indirect engagement with any tobacco/ alcohol related industries.

 

Fellowship procedure:

  • All fellowship applicants will go through peer educator training exclusively on tobacco and roles of health advocate for 30 hours. (For Nada India Interns who are already Peer Leaders, will still have to complete the training but will be exempted from the field work tasks)
  • At the end of the training and out of the successful candidates who have completed the training, a panel of peer leaders will be developed out of whom 3 students will be offered the fellowship and allocated to work on Punjab/ Haryana/ Himachal Pradesh. Your tentative fellowship period is for 8 months.
  • 3 more students will be offered the position of ‘Peer Leader’ under an 8-month unpaid internship program who will also be allocated to work on Punjab/ Haryana/ Himachal Pradesh. Other students will receive a certificate of peer educator traineeship on successful completion of the 30-hour training.
  • Further guidelines for the fellow’s and peer leaders will be taught in due course of your project execution.

 

Your takeaways:

  • At the successful completion of the fellowship the applicant will receive a Certificate of completion, LOR and fellowship grant.
  • Fellows will receive extensive capacity building training personally and online through our digital reading materials to know in-depth on this topic.
  • This fellowship will require frequent field work engagements in the concerned 3 states except on days of lockdown. Due to this requirement, residents of three states are preferred.
  • Opportunity to network and gain several contacts of students and other stakeholders form diverse fields.
  • Extensive situational knowledge on prevailing tobacco conditions in the 3 states and nationally.
  • Understanding the bottom-up approach of policy formulation by getting hands on experience from field work activities.

Submit your updated CV and motivational letter stating your past experiences, expected learnings and the kind of assets you can bring into the team if you are offered this fellowship, in maximum 500 words. Also submit 1 sample of your published/ unpublished paper/ article or any document in English on the related focus areas on the fellowship, it could even be an abstract from them (500 words).
