Noida village bans gutkha, alcohol and cigarettes are next in line

It is a bold step of village Panchyat Sarfabad NOIDA towards community well-being. Minister of Social Justice Sh.Mukul Wasnik announced on 26th June 2012 ,involvement of village Panchayat in alcohol prevention. This is an excellent example of village Panchyat to lead the campaign in the U.P state and than country. Panchyat is an important tool of social control. We support the efforts of Panchyat. Mr.Vatsyayan also advocated for social intervention for alcohol prevention in a live discussion on Loksabha TV

The panchayat of Sarfabad in Noida, a village known for its rich history in wrestling, on Sunday banned all forms of tobacco products and announced fines and punishment for those who dared to defy the diktat.
“People caught selling and consuming tobacco products such as gutkha and kheni in the village will have to pay Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, respectively. We will decide on harsher punishment for repeat offenders,” panchayat member Sukhbir Singh, the brain behind the initiative, said.
He said: “Our next step will be to ban cigarettes and alcohol.”
Sarfabad is known for its champion wrestlers. “This village has produced greats such as Capt. Malkhan Yadav, who has won several medals for the country. For a wrestler, a healthy body is important. India News By IANS, New Delhi: A new report by a group of NGOs Tuesday highlighted the ill-effects of advertising and marketing of alcohol on young people, and proposed a comprehensive ban on all kinds of marketing strategies that seek to portray drinking as normal.
